Cobot Knowledge Lab
Cobot Knowledge Lab aims to increase productivity in the manufacturing industry and boost Denmark's international competitiveness through the application of cobots. Collaborative robots “cobots” can help grow your business, increase turnover, improve working environments, and enhance product quality and job satisfaction. Through Cobot Knowledge Lab, SMEs can obtain information on the benefits of cobots as well as the knowledge on how to get started using them.
What is Cobot Knowledge Lab?
Cobot Knowledge Lab is a project that aims to provide companies with information on the many possibilities of cobots as well as the knowledge and tools needed to implement cobots safely and successfully. Cobot Knowledge Lab will develop and test new tools that business leaders can use to make the right choices in order to meet the technological, business, managerial, organisational and human challenges that Danish manufacturing companies face when they want to utilise the opportunities of cobots.
The project is run by Odense Robotics in collaboration with Danish Technological Institute, DIRA, the University of Southern Denmark, Aarhus University and Fraunhofer IPA.
Who can Participate?
The primary target group for the project is managers and employees in medium-sized Danish companies in the manufacturing industry, who are considering implementing cobots in their production in order to make their production systems more agile, efficient and competitive.
The project's secondary target group consists of technology suppliers (members of DIRA and Odense Robotics) who want to use the Cobot Knowledge Lab to gain better insights into the end users' challenges, wishes and needs.
The purpose of Cobot Knowledge Lab
The vast majority of the cobots sold in Denmark over the past few years have been implemented in traditional production lines, where humans work alongside side cobots - collaborating. A new study (learn more below) revealed SMEs in particular to be lacking information regarding the opportunities of cobots as well as the tools and knowledge to implement them. This is why the Danish Industry Foundation (“Industriens Fond”) has granted the project DKK 5.68 million.
The project will run from 2019-2021.
Study reveals job satisfaction due to cobots
A new study conducted by the Danish Technological Institute, the Danish Industry Foundation, Aarhus Universitet and the University of Southern Denmark shows companies to have gained satisfied employees who have blossomed due to the implementation of cobots. The study also revealed that the companies found it easier to attract qualified employees following the acquisition of cobots.

The study also revealed barriers for companies to be aware of when implementing cobots, such as a lack of information regarding the technology, safety, legislation, business potential, finances, and employee competences. Cobot Knowledge Lab can help assist companies in obtaining the relevant knowledge.

Report: Danish companies’ use of cobots: Barriers, benefits and needs
The report “Danske virksomheders brug af cobots: Barrierer, gevinster og behov” (ENG: “Danish companies’ use of cobots: Barriers, benefits and needs”) delves into the barriers keeping many Danish companies from implementing cobots in their production, while also exploring what benefits they see cobots providing and what they need to start implementing cobots.
Based on a larger report, this report is an abridged version that presents the results from a questionnaire that explored what the Danish manufacturing industry needs to start implementing cobots, while also enlightening the Danish robotics, automation and drone industry on the barriers, potential end users’ experience with cobots.
The project is a collaboration between Odense Robotics, the Danish Technological Institute, the University of Southern Denmark, DIRA, Frauhofer, Aarhus University and the Danish Industry Foundation.

How can your company benefit from CKL?
Companies that participate in either interviews or workshops are subsequently given the opportunity to participate for free in customised intensive courses. This is targeted at managers and employees in Danish manufacturing companies who want to make their production more efficient and agile with a collaborative robot or more.
As a participating company, you get additional access to new tailored tools to evaluate business cases before investing in cobots and agile production systems, as well as strategic tools for developing an action / implementation plan.
As a participating company, there will also be great opportunities for positive PR via case videos. Moreover, PR via news articles produced by the Danish Technological Institute and the Danish Industry Foundation.
